Shelby Flaten
Shelby Flaten was born in Corinth, Mississippi and attended Ole Miss. She has always had an eye for design, textures and colors as she grew up in the clothing/ retail business helping at her parent’s three clothing stores. She was a key part of designing her father’s accessory line, as well ,which sold all over the US. Because of the constant changing fashion designs, she had to keep up with trends, colors and styles. After moving to Dallas, getting married and having three children, she decided to take up a new hobby and started dabbling in painting to fill her time when her kids were in school. Shelby’s aunt and uncle were artist by trade and made a living selling their work in Mississippi. She hoped that somehow their talent might have trickled down into her DNA.After filling her garage with art and never even telling people that she painted, several friends who were realtors and decorators saw her work laying around and asked if they could sell a few pieces. This is where it all began....Shelby loves color and believes every home should have a “happy piece that adds a POP.” She says that unlike people’s taste for fashion, which changes constantly, a piece of art should be timeless and something you grow to love more and more.
