Janet Lay has always been her happiest when creating something.
She has spent the last 30 plus years as a Realtor matching people to
homes . She and her husband , Tommy ,were “Fixer Uppers” before
it was cool. They have made homes beautiful since 1997.
In 2006, her friend, Barbara , introduced her to painting. Once Janet
put a brush in her hand , she was in love. Her mother was ill at the
time. She painted at night when she couldn’t sleep. It was her saving
grace and her paintings took on religious themes. They are still
some of her favorites.
Today, Janet is a full time artist and a juried oil painter. She has
sold many paintings and in 2018 had her first solo show at the
gallery, Raw 1899.
Janet and Tommy collect old vehicles. Her love of architecture and
automobiles is evident in her paintings.
I feel like my talent is from God. I give Him the credit by putting a cross
on my signature. When asked what kind of painter I am, I have to reply, “I
love architecture, old vehicles and whimsy. Wherever God takes me with that.”
